html special chars?

I'm trying to use token together with Automatic Nodetitles in order to produce an automatic nodetitle from a cck date-field.
What I'm getting as the title is i.e.
<span class="date-display-single">Monday, 1. January 2007</span>
... literally, which is not really what I expected.

Is this the right place here, or would it be the task of Automatic Nodetitles to take care of the html tags, or ... ???

The wrong interpretation of the date-field is another problem, that doesn't belong into this report ;-)
