Any plans to make this compatible with Drupal 7? Any estimate of when it may be available? Thanks!

geerlingguy commentedWould be awesome.

icecreamyou commentedYes, absolutely. I built this module for Acquia Commons, so it will definitely get ported to D7 by the time Commons gets to D7 (likely sometime towards the end of the year) and hopefully well before that. It's not a simple port though -- Activity Log relies on very specific things in Rules, and Rules has changed a lot in D7, so I might have to reconstruct an important part of the underlying mechanisms.

MacRonin commentedUpdating Title so it is more useful on the Dashboard activity display.
Side benefit is I get to subscribe without feeling guilty about doing a "+1" :-)

JohnnyX commentedI'm searching for a activity module which automatically poll messages and found this post. This module looks good, but it looks like there is no port to D7 yet?
nikolai commentedsubscribe - I took the round of all the activity/message/heartbeat etc. modules, and Activity Log looks very convincing. Any progress on D7?
icecreamyou commentedNot so far.

naxoc commentedI have started to see if I can upgrade the module to D7. Would you like patches against master, 6.x-2.x, or is it easier if you create a 7.x branch?
icecreamyou commentedA patch against 6.x-2.x is fine for now. Note that the Rules architecture has changed significantly in D7 so the magic that makes Activity Log possible may have to change quite a bit. I'm happy to answer any questions you may have about the way Activity Log works although I have exams this week so I won't be on d.o as much.

skizzo commented@naxoc: I am also in the process of selecting an activity monitor for D7.
Did you manage to look into the D7 port?
What are your feelings about it? Thx
Comment #14
naxoc commented@skizzo: I got swamped with other projects.. So I haven't looked much at the upgrade. What I did find was that a lot of the work is going to be related to whatever changes happened in the Rules module. So once one gets a hang of that it should be a little easier.
I never used this module in D6, so I had a real problem testing that I haven't broken something. This is simply because I don't know how the module is supposed to act.
I still need a module like this, so I am still interested in helping out with the upgrade.

jordanmagnuson commentedAny progress on this, or would a port still be starting from "scratch" at this point?
icecreamyou commentedBecause of Acquia's recent decision to switch to the Message module for D7 Commons, it is likely that there will not be a D7 port of this module, at least as it exists today. There will definitely be an upgrade path to the Message module though.
jordanmagnuson commentedAh, okay, that's helpful to know. Thanks. (You might want to mention that on the front page? Just a thought...)
icecreamyou commentedIt's not a final decision; I'll update the project page when I've decided I'm not going to change my mind. If there is a D7 branch for Activity Log though it will probably be rewritten from scratch and may not look a lot like the current branch. The only reason I would do that is if I discover there are major things I don't like about Message that are architecturally infeasible to solve. But ultimately if I were to write Activity Log again from scratch today my guess is it would look a lot like Message (without actually having really looked at the Message code). Alternatively, this project might turn into something super lightweight.
Ultimately, though, I think it's most likely that there will be no further development on Activity Log other than anything required to make an upgrade path minimally painful.
