Using the v5 versions of both of these modules there doesnt seem to be an easy way to create a "my bookmarks" link, is this an oversight? OR is it more advanced than the README makes out?

You need to use the views module to create the display pages and menu items for this module.

naX is correct, all display of bookmarked content must be done with views (hence the name of the module). http://drupal.org/node/132941 may help get you started.
