I know this is a little bit of a stretch, but how difficult would it be for me (not php savvy) to backport this to Drupal 5 with Views 1?

Or at the very least create Views Handling Code that does this in Views 1?

I have a customer who needs PCI compliance, and the specific setup with a lack of 404s fails compliancy - that's why I'm looking into this, and not just moving to D6.

I can't accurately comment on this because I've never dealt with Drupal 5 or views 1. That being said I will accept a backport.
