Of course, YMMV. I could not get any of the following to work. About 4 out 5 modules I try to install in 5.0 don't work. I wish I knew about these before I wasted my time.
Calendar - not WebCalendar. It worked for a while, then disapeared off my website.
FCKeditor - just could not get it work.
TinyMCE - same as FCKeditor.
Weather - completely crased my site.
Widgeditor - semi-works after editing the source code. The problem is, I get two message bodies by default. I can clear one of the message bodies by reloading.
Also, I can not get the "Golden Hour" theme to work with IE7.

Bugged there, fixed that
Tiny and FCK use javascripts. Got to modify your theme to include the new header line including scripts.php. Check out the new versions of the includede themes and you'll see this extra line there.
If they don't work on the latest default themes, then something else is wrong.
calendar.module uses views.
calendar.module uses views. insure that you have all the dependencies to calendar & views enabled.
Posting "issues" against specific modules that don't work in your environment is the way modules get fixed to work in your environment. When this is done, you start a dialouge with the modules maintainer. There is noone better qualified to de-bug a module then the developer themself.
Updates to modules on Drupal 5 are released twice a day at minimum. Insure you are using the latest releases to all modules installed. especially with modules marked -dev. The way you can keep track is by checking the date of the last time it was archived. or by checking the ID line at the top of the .module file.
TinyMCE for one was updated today with some changes. Insure you are installing the latest available release and keep track of modules that are released daily by reviewing the downloads area using the "date" tab.
calendar.module was working
I realize calendar.module uses views. I still don't quite understand views, but I managed to muddle though, and get everything set up. It working for a few days, then it just dissapeared. I didn't change any settings.
The only thing I can think of, is that my installing other modules: fileview, fileshare, filebrowse; caused it to break. I tried un-enabling those file* modules, but the calendar did not come back.
Considering how much trouble
Considering how much trouble you have seemed to have using Drupal and its modules, I have to believe your environment is the cause.
are you installing these modules on a local machine ? or on a server on the internet ?
Shared hosting - dot5hosting
My host may be part of the problem. But, a lot of people use shared hosting. I wish drupal developers would realize that.
!!??
Drupal developers DO realize that. If you bothered to read Dries' blog or development list traffic you wouldn't have said such a silly thing.
As it is, I just downloaded and tested Calendar module and it worked fine out of the box. I don't have a need of any of the other modules listed but you may want to just enable aggregator and do a news feed for it (http://www.nws.noaa.gov/)

not ALL share hosting
not ALL share hosting platforms are equal. Many of us run both dedicated and share hosting depending on the type of site being developed. I don't have any experience with Dot5 so I cannot comment on certain irregularities with their servers.
However, My developement and module testing is done in a shared hosting environment and haven't had any where near the amount of trouble you have run into.
FCKeditor and Golden Hour Work in 5.0
I have had no problem getting FCKeditor and the Golden Hour theme to work in both Firefox and IE7.
FCK and Golden
Golden here too - and FCK dies without dignity - with IE 6 throwing "Can not open site" errors.
Are you using the OG module? I've had FCK up and running twice - but with OG enabled, it fails.
I had theme issues too, dragging customized 4.7 themes into D5 - which is why I ended up switching to a 'new', 5.x compatible theme, in my case Golden. But, as horrid as the FCK issues have been, tinyMCE seems worse.
Speaking of which : Has anyone gotten FCK and OG to work together? Has anyone gotten tinyMCE to work PERIOD?

Not Using OG
Nope, I'm not using the OG module and I stick to the 5.x qualified themes. Garland and Golden Hour are my personal favorites. As to FCKeditor I've had zero problems. I use it all the time and upload photos just fine without any issues at all.
Good point, I'll try to do

Drupal 5.0 or Drupal 5.1 with FCKEditor and IMCE | No Problems!
You can try my website. I'm on Drupal latest version at the moment called 5.1 version. Those FCKEditor + IMCE work very well on both version 5.0 and 5.1 now.
FCKEditor Module
FCKEditor Module needs you to download the FCKEditor at their website http://www.fckeditor.net/
then, you gotta upload in the same folder in FCKEditor Module Folder. So there will be another subfolder of FCKEditor app inside the FCKEditor Module Folder. Just enable the module then it should works!
IMCE Module
While the IMCE is much easier where you just need to upload the module and enable it. Man! I love the thumbnail. My work become faster now!
We can discuss more if ya want, I always online with my skype

?? With organic groups?
That's terrific that you've got FCK with IMCE working. Are you also using the organic groups module? That seems to be what's killing my editor.
I've had FCK running several times with and without IMCE. When I enable groups, it breaks and IE throws a "can't open site error". firefox fails more gracefully - it draws horizontal lines across the screen to replace the textarea.

You can always check the
You can always check the bugs for the module version in every module's page in Drupal.org . Sometimes a bug can stuck one whole module and even the whole of your website. For instance, last time I had my website RSS unable to syndicate with any 3rd party RSS reader, just because of the Localizer Module buggy version. But then after I upgrade to the latest version of that module everything went fine :)
I was glad!
