It is not a dumb question.

You can find all you want to know, perhaps even more than you want to know, about versions at Version numbers, policies and which version you should use.

Off topic:
A better title of your post would have been:

What does the version Head mean?

Just imagine this hypothetical forum overview and you will realize why titles matter:
