Hi all,
I searched this forum, but no-one seemed to have had the same problem as I do:
I unzipped the FCKeditor to my harddrive and then transferred the folder 'FCKeditor' to (site)/modules/.
Then I opened Home-Administer-Site Building page. But, the editor cannot be seen, hence there is no way of activating it.
Is there something I am doing completely wrong? Please help.

fckeditor.module needs additional scripts
Have you uploaded the scripts from the FCKeditor constructor website,
according to (site)/modules/fckeditor/README.txt ?
Just installed the fckeditor
First, I'm assuming you've downloaded and installed the Drupal FCKeditor module: http://drupal.org/project/fckeditor
Second, go to http://www.fckeditor.net and download the actual FCKeditor.
Unzip the tar/zip in your ../modules/fckeditor directory. This will create a subdirectory: ../modules/fckeditor/fckeditor
The subdirectory holds the actual fckeditor.
Be sure the folders and contents are owned by the user running Apache.
Now activate the module and grant user permissions.
Finally, when I installed this module I kept getting an error stating:
Unknown toolbar item "UniversalKey"
To get rid of this error, I opened ../modules/fckeditor/fckeditor.config.js
I changed:
to
And everything worked fine.

P.S. Not sure why empty lines are showing in the code blocks, they should not be there
Installation issues
Boss Happy,
thank you very much for the instructions, I got the app working (with the "Universal Key" error as well). Tomorrow I'll try to edit the .js -file.
As a general comment, I would say the installation procedure is not documented very well.
Best regards,
frell
Thanks
works great..
That fix worked perfectly
That fix worked perfectly for me.
Frackin', frellin, fckeditor
This fix ain't workin for me. I've even gone into the fckeditor/editor/lang/*.js files and edited out the frackin' "Universal keyboard" entries, to no avail. I've done a "grep -Ri 'universal key' *" at the top of the *modules* directory, and only found entries in the editor/lang/*.js files, and the _whatsnew.html file -- which says (by the way) that they removed the frellin' universal keyboard module because they weren't confident in the license.
I even tried doing shift-reload with FF to see if maybe I had a cached JS page. No joy.
So I'm damned if I can see where the issue is. Anybody have any ideas?
Drives me nuts that a project as sophisticated as Drupal doesn't just "officially" adopt a favorite-sun HTML editor and distribute it. I mean, it should be a NON-ISSUE. Plone has it all over drupal in this world.....
Temporary fix
Interestingly, I was able to go to the FCKeditor Settings page (Admin > Site config > FCKeditor in Drupal 5.x), and tell it to use "Basic" and "Advanced" -- **instead of** DrupalBasic and DrupalAdvancedm, the other two choices in the menu -- and the complaint seems to go away.
So there's something either busted, or that I'm missing. Somewhere. I can't take the time at the moment to find it. (Sorry, folks.)
this is the only fix that worked for me (5.x)
I tried the code-replacement fix and it didn't work for me either.
But changing the FCK settings (in Admin>Site Config>FCKeditor) to use "Default" rather then "Drupal Full" or "Drupal Basic", seems to be the only fix that worked for me. So thanks a lot, batsonjay!!!
PS: I'm a Drupal 5.1 user
default:default
Admin > Site config > FCKeditor in Drupal 5.x toolbars both set to "Default". full functionality and looks full. try it.

This solution is not working for me either
sites/all/modules/fckeditor/fckeditor/
No luck.
Anybody knows why?
My Drupal is 6.
The universal keyboard was
The universal keyboard was removed from the latest versions of FCKeditor.
The latest development release of the fckeditor.module will work. (it's not a full release yet because of some other features that need to get in)

Worked For Me
Hey! Thanks a bunch for this fix. Worked like a charm for me. Using Drupal 4.7.6 and FCKeditor 2.4
Quick fix for "universal key" error
I kept getting this error and found a quick-fix solution in this thread http://drupal.org/node/151945#comment-242430. It worked! This module will be a great addition to my site.

FCKeditor FCK'd me
My site is now not functioning correctly after I went to install fckeditor...
It has removed alot of options from my admin area. Why? I cannot do anything under content management except moderate the comments. I cannot add/remove modules. WTF??? I have no user management capabilities. WTF!!!! Now I'm probably gonna have to reinstall my whole site. I have lots of articles... so WTF!!!!!!!!!!
Not sure what specificially is going on,
but try removing the fckeditor module folder from sites/all/modules and refreshing.
Keep a test copy of your site to try new modules on, to avoid problems like this.
