Panels Bonus Package Port to Drupal 7

From the maintancer of DS ( Display Suite )

Hi Erik,

I'm the maintainer of Display Suite and working on new code which we needed for a client. DS will come with a submodule called 'Panels view modes' which will take over the "manage display" screens of all entities. So instead of the Field UI, you'll be able to use panels layout manager to rearrange your fields of nodes, users etc.

This is only D7, I'll never backport this to D6. The code will be available in a couple of days, so in case you need inspiration for the port for panels bonus package for the build modes (not view modes), you can always look at that code. Note, that submodule will also have specific code to disable some functionality used default by DS. Of course, you can always decide yourself to not include that functionality too, your call.

I've been contemplating hard myself whether or not I should include this in DS or not, but it seems like a natural step since it now support panels layouts too and has tight integration already with the contexts of CTools.

I also wanted to mail you to make sure you're the first to know about this functionality.

I am making a few styles to Help MerlinOfChaos out, and before in post he sated he wished someone would make a sub-module that could hold user-made style, with this module be able to do so?

If so I would gladly help with what I know.

Have a look into the D7 Display Suite module. They use now panels as layout manager. Very nice. So there will be no afford to port this module.
