Here's an initial patch for the cod_news feature. This was produced with help by John & Frances @ Sage Tree, Kevin @ WizOneSolutions.

#2 no longer applied cleanly. I manually applied some changes and enabled the feature. I added an access check on the /news view (for published content permission) and recreated the feature and tested on a new install.

Pretty sure this is RTBC but I'll do a quick compare against 6.x-1.x cod_news.
