I'm finding that the thumbnail of an attached image which is presented in the node, teaser, etc always links to the node it is attached to, and not the image node.

I would expect, when full viewing a node with an image attachment, clicking on the thumbnail should open up the image node with the various size display options ...

Am I alone with this problem ? Have I missed something ?

I have noticed and wondered about the same thing. I agree that linking to the image node is more appropriate.

you should be able to do this by overriding the theme function.
