I just checked out the latest cvs-version and got the following error upgrading the DB (from 1.x dev version somewhere between 1.6 and 1.7):

user warning: Unknown column 'contentlocales' in 'field list' query: SELECT contentlocales, switch_uicontent FROM localizeruser WHERE uid = 1 in /srv/www/vhosts/swlspaces.com/subdomains/d5/httpdocs/includes/database.mysql.inc on line 172.

Looking at phpMyAdmin right now, the DB seems to be ok, and the site seems to work to ;-)

Will close this report soon if nobody else sees this and no errors crop up.

Yes, it is possible, but, have you run update.php after the upgrade ?
