what would be a few of the first steps i would do after installing drupal on my server?

are there any specific modules you would recommend?

if you are working with audio. youll want to audio module.
if you want to create band profiles, you'll want CCK.module
if you want automation of paths, you'll want pathauto.module
if you want video, you'll want to look into the video.module
if you want specific views, gathered from teh database, you'll want the views.module
if you want buddylists, you'll want the buddylist module.

see where this is going ? it all depends on what you want.
