Given the functionality overlap, GlobalRedirect should merge with the Redirect module for Drupal 7. I've added a feature request for Redirect to add the transparent redirection functionality that GlobalRedirect has (#1155404: Merge GlobalRedirect's "transparent redirects" functionality) but otherwise IMHO Redirect is the way forwards for Drupal redirection handling.

I've got the 80% use case for global redirect already in code, but disabled since it was causing problems before. I'll have to take a look to see what I can do to re-enable it.

Some kind of a deprecation notice on the front page of globalredirect would be welcome once that redirect merge patch is ready.
