I would like to see visible weights disappear in lieu of a more web 2.0 (I hate that phrase) arrangement for ordering blocks, menu items, etc., similar in concept to this.

It would be important to be able to share ALL aspects of the site through http and have any other access (ftp, telnet/ssh, ...) to the server limited to a once-for-ever installation of the core, especially:
templates, style sheets, themes, views (OK to some extend), add-on modules, subsites ;
this would have several advantages, in addition to the ease of use (especially in absence of telnet access), e.g. backing up of all codebase changes in addition to content. (This feature could be made optional and "hard-wired" disabled by modifying the bootstrap file if necessary for security reasons.)

This one is already being sorted out per discussions i've seen in D6 dev issues.

They are some important contributed modules fixed in the oldes release, i can cite Protect node by role and simple acess, the manteners they don't seem to be interested with 5.X. Others modules they came with more and more options and a few doc...Some times it seem that the menteners they don't want "midile people" around! try captcha+textimage (sofistication), leech (nothing to do with the splicity of news page, it's more easy to install an airbus than leech (atomic doc!!). Behind all this we certainly have a lots manteners they are doing a excelent work...And we have a good luck...they are so much than the others!

A simple method for retrieving information based on the node author (ie other posts, profile info, etc).

More intuitive image handling, this still seems a bit awkward to me after great improvements.

an active select method built into core that would handle categories in a more user/admin friendly way for larger taxonomy systems where a users choice in drop down 1 "affects" the choices in dropdown 2 so on so forth.
