I had a similar need, and found the Views module to be what I wanted. In my case though, since I was using version 5, no up/down voting was possible, so I explored Jrating and 5-star. Running them both allowed me to show both on a node teaser, which was what I wanted. Using the views module, I defined a Page for showing results, indicated the fields and sort order (descending overall score), and selected to show results in a table. It worked well.
OK. Sorry to hear that. I don't know much about all of this. I haven't downloaded up/down from head. I have Fivestar and Jrating both turned on, though only Fivestar shows in the options of fields for sorting. It appears as individual and average rating score. I'm presuming that you have votingAPI and Actions enabled.
the problem I am having now, which for some reason i did not realize, is that the sort function in views w/ votingapi "Voting Result" (to sort ascending or descending according to amount of votes, does NOT work (using vote up/down)
Does anyone have this working and sorting correctly by vote amounts?
I THINK this is the situation, but someone correct me if I'm wrong.
The fivestar module hooks directly into Views and so exposes its values directly.
Vote up/down uses the voting api (as does fivestar) but it doesn't hook into views directly. Therefore, you are dependent on accessing voting api for your votes. However, until recently, the voting api was not working correctly in Drupal 5 with Views. (scroll to the bottom of this issue)
I haven't had a chance to check it, but if Voting API is now working with Views, you should be able to pull up the sort by votes option and have it work.
On a related note, I've got nodevote running and allowed access control to anonymous, but non-registered visitors still can't vote. I was gonna make a bug, but nodevote looks semi-abandoned. Alternatively, if anyone has a simple rating module they can recommend which allows anonymous voting, that would be great. If it comes with a block, even better. Thanks.
This looks to be fixed (at least somewhere between version 1.2 and 1.5 of this module.. install the latest stable and you'll get the VotingAPI criteria in views.

Anything new on this?
I also use Vote Up/Down, and I want to do the same thing using the Views module.

try this
try sorting on.... VotingAPI: Vote value
you need to add voting api:
you need to add voting api: result function to the filter.
Where is this "result
Where is this "result function" option as I cannot see it under 5.x ?

vote up down is great. by
vote up down is great. by block do you mean you can place the widget in a block?

WTF. Whenever something doesn't work right, I began to worry something is fubared.
I tried vote up/down. No luck. I have given anonymous access to all but administer.
access up-down vote statistic
administer up-down vote
use up-down vote
view up-down vote
Yet, as soon as I log out I lose the ability to vote. What gives?

I didn't think anonymous
I didn't think anonymous voting was allowed with the VotingAPI? It might be possible now though (since your post in March '07)
