Sorry to keep bugging with this but drupal 5.1 is already out and many of us would be happy to see this functionality in our hands too. Maybe opening this thread will help for other users to contribute with patches.

Phil, sorry to slow down your upgrades... i'm just in the middle of the same process,
trying to upgrade my site to 5.1 with even basic input filters missing...

I hope can move forward on this today still!
