There are many posts about this but none I have tried offer me a solution.

With most of my fairly newbie users using IE, I discovered that once registered, they were unable to login using IE (6/7/8/9). No errors, just refreshes the login (Home) page, but they are not logged in. This is fixed client side by dropping privacy settings to LOW, and I have had to put up a help page for those users.

Has anyone sorted this out server side?

Perhaps this happens when cookies have problems.
I don't use IE at all so I can't give a straight forward solution.

Go to sites/default/settings.php (if a multisute, go to that settings.php file), locate $cookie_domain setting, and setup it correctly with the domain of site. In most IE-related problems, this causes many annoying problems.

I'll try that out.

Do I use the referred domain or the actual domain?

For example the real domain where the site is hosted is called example.info but I want people to visit using example.co.uk, which is pointed at example.info.

Also, do I need to put http:// in the cookie_domain setting as well or just the domain name, as per the default?

Thanks

Put the domain that you need to keep visitors on, and where they log in.
You can use login.example.com only for logins and users ca keep logged in if all of sites are in a multi-site installation under subdomains.

Use .example.com format(Note the prefixed dot in example.com, and no http://)

Well tried the cookie_domain thing, but IE users still can't login :( and it blocks Firefox too!!
Not multisite, just a single site

Any other options?

Thanks for your help Ayesh :)

The problem was in settings.php . The domain name with or without www. In my case, my domain name is without www and in the settings.php the $cookie_domain = and $base_url = was wrote with www . Now, it works fine.

In my case, comment $base_url and use:
$cookie_domain = 'site.com';

and works.

Total newb error, but thought I'd post here since it might help someone. Having an underscore, e.g., "example_site" in your domain name will cause this problem in all versions of Internet Explorer (but not other browsers).

I knew this, then forgot it, and spent a few minutes wondering why one of my dev sites wouldn't work....

Can you even have underscores in a domain name?
