If you set up a WYSIWYG editor in drupal for filtered HTML input-type, have comments enabled for a content type, and have permissions for a user role to use fitlered HTML input-type, those users will have a WYSIWYG editor when posting comments.

How can you get rid of this? Edit your content type, and chose the 'comment fields' tab. Click 'edit' for the 'comment_body' field and under 'Test processing', select 'Plain text'.

The path to that menu is
admin/structure/types/manage//comment/fields/comment_body

I'm posting this becuase I've been searching for the answer and haven't seen anything on d.o

Unfortunately, it appears that if you select plain text format, the carriage returns and line feeds are not preserved. So you get one single long paragraph.

I'd like to have filtered text for comments but with the WYSWYG editor disabled.
Ive read here http://groups.drupal.org/node/62613 that I have to write

*.edit-comment.
or
*@comment/reply/*.edit-comment
*@comment/edit/*.edit-comment

in some field of the ckeditor settings to disable it only for comments, but I dont find where.
In global settings there are only these fields: 'Path to CKEditor' and 'Path to the CKEditor plugins directory'
Can you help me?
I'm using dupal 7.9

Thanks

Was wondering how to do this - thanks!

Any thoughts on how to get rid of 'help' box for commenting?

I appreciate this, mtro! Over two years ago since the post, but I have benefited from this too.

Best,

The Comment Field for each Content Type can alternatively be edited to "plain Text":

for ex. Basic Page - ..../admin/structure/types/manage/page

top (left) - the tabs include Comment Field - open

.../admin/structure/types/manage/page/comment/fields

Comment comment_body Long text Text area (multiple rows) edit delete export

(Note - the links above in the table are shortened as shown above. They reveal what you can copy and paste into your URL or just use as a hint to find the right place. If you copy them into the URL of your site, add them right after the base path of yur site, where it starts with "/admin/....").

choose edit

set to Plain text

.../admin/structure/types/manage/page/comment/fields/comment_body

go to

Text processing
Plain text
Filtered text (user selects text format

and change to Plain text.
