Darn it, I'm creating a new site with 5.1 and really need this module to drive it.

Support from Acquia helps fund testing for Drupal Acquia logo

Any ideas when this might be available?

B.P.B’s picture

I would give my left arm for 5.x support! This is by far one of the TOP 5 most powerful modules.

moshe weitzman’s picture

i am not actively working on this module. if someone creates a patch and another person positively reviews it, then i'll commit the patch and release new version.

weweblog’s picture

A very very powerful and useful module! What a pity it can't used under 5.X! Thank the authors anyway.^_^

silverado’s picture

I hope we can get a 5.x version soon. I also think is one of the most useful modules. Meanwhile, any substitute module?

the_therapist’s picture

I tried about five modules for taxonomy browsing for 5.1 and all of them either did something other than what I wanted or did too much. Taxonomy browser does exactly what I want and it's very clear for users. I add my name to the petition for 5.x support

Janne’s picture

Add me to the list as well. This is exactly what I need to get things working the way they need them to.

I've make a quick update to 5.x of this module today. I search for similar functionalities, but I don't know exactly what this module does, because on my server I've got only a Drupal 5.x installation.
This is not a real patch, it's a tarball with a new taxonomy_browser.info file and the updated taxonomy_browser.module file.

Please tell me if this update does what you expeted from the 4.7 version.
I miss multiselect choices from the terms of a vocabularity and I would really like to see them as checkboxes.

NancyDru’s picture

Thanks. I didn't have this on 4.7 either. The sites I need it for are 5.1. I'll take a look at it very soon.

NancyDru’s picture

The good news: It doesn't crash the site. The bad news: it doesn't select anything.

Hm? Why should it crash your site?

ryo’s picture

Works, works, works!
Thank you, mdwp! I appreciate.

But one thing. What about "Restrict search by content type" functionality?
In the pot file, there are strings like this.
"You do not have the node_type_filter module installed.
This means that the 'restrict search by content type' option will not be available on the category browser page."

So it seems we should have "node_type_filter module" upgraded for 5.X and installed in order for this module to work perfectly?

NancyDru’s picture

Actually, with CCK-Lite being a part of standard core, the node_type_filter stuff should be standard too. I encourage all to lobby for it.

I join the discussion to encourage developers supporting the taxonomy_browser module in the next Drupal releases.
Categories and taxonomy_browser provide Drupal users with an edge over other CMSs, and was indeed the main reason why I selected Drupal 4.7 for my web sites after some research and wasted time.
As soon as I will migrate to 5.1 I will test the updated version: thank you mdwp!

I'm really pleased to see the work on this v5 port - but I have a problem with my install of it. I installed it and configured it, but I'm getting

Object of class stdClass could not be converted to string in D:\xnetpub\info\includes\form.inc on line 1061. when I go to the taxonomy_browser page

Based on the work in #8, I've created a patch against HEAD.

The patch from #16 (#8) works fine with the attached .info file.

s_oneill’s picture

I'm probably a bit thick - but would someone be kind enough to wrap the patches and re-worked files into a single tar.gz file for amateurs like me, plz?

I miss taxonomy browser too on my 5.1 site.

Kind regards
Soren

big67’s picture

I may be wrong but I believe the patches are already merged in the file downloadable from the link in post #8

NancyDru’s picture

@moshe (#3), I think you have your patch and several positive reviews.

mo6’s picture

Is this module in need of additional maintainers?

petersec’s picture

I installed this patch and it seems to work fine, but I can't select multiple tags in each taxonomy. Thoughts?

B.P.B’s picture

This is the "holy grail of drupal 5.1" that I've waited months for. I owe you my left arm.

So far it works perfectly except for making not so pretty URLs:

www.mysite.com/taxonomy/term/69%2C104%2C80%2C78%2C11%2C99?

How can this be fixed?

B.P.B’s picture

This module really needs support to choose "any".

For instance lets say you want to find Red Widgets made in New York. You select the color red and New York... But what if there are other categories? Like Shape, Weight, etc?

Then you are forced to choose items in those categories, and often no results come up because the search is too narrow.

Would adding an "Any" option to each category be difficult to program? Could it be added as a patch or does the whole module need to be rewritten from the ground up?

jeanhr’s picture

Subscribing.

vickijd’s picture

Hi. I have installed the patch in #8 but am having the problem which nancy reported that no categories are listed (at least I think it's the same problem.) I wondered how you had sorted this out nancy.

NancyDru’s picture

Well, I sorted it out by not using the module.

itsnotme’s picture

I've installed the file from #8 and also can't choose categories. I'm a very new user and this feature would be very helpful for my website (so far manually coded 200 stories and 700 links, needs a pile of taxonomy). Hopefully someone can improve this module for 5.x further.

(P.S.: Chose Drupal over many other CMS after looking around for a week, and am hopeful all will end well :)

NancyDru’s picture

Did you go to Administer » Site configuration » Input formats and configure it?

Oops, got myself confused on this one.

itsnotme’s picture

Hi Nancy, I guess that's a misunderstanding. My old website has 200 manually-coded stories which I need to switch over one day. The Input formats work very well.

I'm now investigating the views stuff for what I need...

EDIT: Views are really great for outputting lists based on taxonomy! :)

NancyDru’s picture

itsnotme’s picture

I saw that discussion, but so far my experiences with views don't look that bad.

However, do I see that right that I cannot directly set 'display teaser' when I'm not outputting a Page view, because the teaser length it a page setting?

vickijd’s picture

Well I have used views to solve the problem too, but instead of using the taxonomy I used the CCK to add another field to story which I then use to filter on.

That seems to work well for my particular needs.

Regards
Vicki

I would give my right arm for 5.x support! ^_^

NancyDru’s picture

@PalWoo - the patches above will give it to you.

Considering the issues statistics, I would say that this module has been abandoned. Certainly, there are no issues that have ever been fixed.

Well, good news, all, the module now has an active maintainer.

I admit to being CVS-challenged, it looks like there will be a 5.x-dev version when the update happens this evening.
