Go to /admin/blocks on your site and disable the user login block. People will have to go to /user to log in then, or you can provide a link to that page to allow them to log in.

quick answer is, yes. It is after all just a block that can be removed. As long as you remember that for you to login. You would need to go to this address:
http://www.example.com/user
Or you can add the login Menu module That will provide a login link for you menu.

Hope this helps.

I did as suggested above but when I attempt to load the http://www.example.com/user it gives a 500 Internal Server Error. What should I do to correct this? Right now I can't access the admin area of the site.

http://www.ecommercehelpcenter.com/user
works for me. Try flushing your browser cache and deleting cookies.

Thanks, but I cleared cache and cookies, even tried loading from another browser type and still get the 500 error.

Maybe I didn't just disable it, but did something to make it inaccessible?

Is there some way I could hack it in the db or code to turn it back on so the user log in displays again?
