Users expect to preview blocks before saving changes.

Possible solution:

- Remove “block”, allowing any content to be exposed as blocks are now.

- Make “block” a content type”.

The solutions discussed above are probably limited to custom blocks (and are mostly encapsulated by #1164718: Improving the usability between "custom block" and "content").

If we're looking for a solution for all blocks, we'd need some kind of preview functionality on:

  1. The Administration > Structure > Blocks page
  2. The individual block configuration pages (i.e., the "region" dropdown)

The first one may be somewhat covered by this issue - #1164730: Blocks overview pages lacks context, overwhelms new users - since that is discussing drag and drop, and drag and drop might turn out to be easier than a full fledged preview with a separate interface for editing it :)

This looks like it's dead but this is something I run into constantly doing contract work. People say "If it's a CMS, why can't I preview changes? Why can't I roll back changes?"

If someone has a concoction that resolves this problem, it'd be great to hear about it. I'm currently trying to use Panels->Minipanels with node content to try to deal with this, but it's certainly not ideal.
