How to upgrade Zen theme from 6.2 to 7.3

I'm amazed that there isn't any information on this. Zen is supposedly one of the biggest starter themes. I have a Zen sub-theme we've put 2 years into, and now I don't know how to update it for 7.

The documentation is copious to update between versions for Drupal 6 and even between versions of Drupal 7, but there is a giant dead end for going from 6 to 7.

Does anyone have any answers or information or insight on this issue?

Kind of: I gave up on Zen and moved to Omega theme. I did at first because I didn't know what do to upgrade Zen to 7, and I figured if I was going to have to start from scratch, I might as well do it in an HTML5-based theme.

Now, I'm glad I did. In addition to the above reasons, I'm really just in love with the usability as well as the vision of the Omega theme!

I replicated my Zen theme in Omega in one night! And all the details in Zen I was confused about and compromises I had to make, I completely corrected and improved in Omega. It's so powerful and flexible. It basically takes every single element you could conceive of needing to manipulate and wraps it with just right amount of logical CSS; and it resets everything so anything you want to do in a sub-theme just works!!! In every other theme I tried, including Zen, I always found some other hidden CSS somewhere that was counteracting what I was trying to do in someway, and I found myself spending hours debugging/hittingmyheadagainstthemonitor and then often giving up and just doing some weird trick that only half-fixed it, and left my CSS cluttered and hard to interpret in the future. With Omega, it was what I always wanted to do with CSS -- I wanted something in the corner, I put there. I wanted to do a whole bunch of stuff along the borders, I did it. It was like the olden days of drawing on paper or designing in Photoshop, and it was wonderful, and almost more fun than it was work. This was the first time I really had that experience doing CSS for a Drupal theme.

And, in my opinion, everyone should be moving to HTML5 asap, so you're working with modern code that the best of web activity uses best. Omega is all 5 all the time, right out of the box.

I know I sound like a commercial, but I would consider going to Omega. I'm not exactly an expert, but I'm right in the middle of it now, and I can try to offer whatever "expertise"/experience I can.

I just realized my last post might be inappropriate, but I'm not sure: I wasn't trying to be disrespectful to Zen, and these aren't paid products in a marketplace, so I didn't think speaking to the merits of an alternative option is necessarily wrong, but I don't necessarily know all the etiquette for this kind of thing and was concerned about it in retrospect.

I *am* frustrated that 3 months later there is still no response to this, when Zen was supposed to be active and documented. That said, I did get tremendous value out of Zen and really liked it for the time I could use it. I probably wouldn't go any other way in Drupal 6.

But given the radio silence on upgrading it to 7, I thought this information about Omega was important: I felt really stranded for months because I couldn't find instructions to upgrade, and I wouldn't want others in the same situation to not know of this really easy strategy to cut your losses.

Yes, gowrann, you are correct. In fact, that documentation was exactly what I was referring to when I first made this post: There is detailed documentation on upgrading between incremental versions of 6 or 7, but not between 6 & 7. I continue to be puzzled by how all this work can be put into this theme, which was hailed as one of the more pivotal themes for building good quality sub themes, and not a single document can be found on this important upgrade process.

Post #5 doesn't actually fix this issue. It's exactly where it was 7 months ago.
