We have a requirement to both host some media content locally AND link to external media via YouTube and other providers.

Objective: We need to be able to show video thumbnails on the page as well as allow users to watch the video from the site.

The user should not necessarily have any idea whether the content is local or remote.

We plan to use the cck embedded media field to link to the external content and use the cck video field for our internal media.

What is the best way to accomplish the objective so we can display either internal or external media thumbnails and allow the user to view them from within our site?

I too am needing to figure out how to have ONE field that can be either a 3rd Party video URL or a local video, and to play the video from my site. Anyone?

Embed media module already have little support for local content.
Did you search yhe issue queue ?
