I'm not positive about this, as my modules might be conflicting, and I'm a newbie to Drupal, BUT,
It seems like the sticky setting has no effect on this theme.
Can anyone verify this?

Content being sticky is not concern of a theme in Drupal. Although it might not look distinguished from other non-sticky posts. If you have any doubts to be cleared up, you may ask anywhere over drupal.org forums.
