Prerequisites, Dependencies, or Patches Required

Does this module assume the checkout process has been or can be broken up into multiple steps? As far as mine eyes have seen, you can't break up the checkout process without significant modification to ubercart's core.

If so, are there any pre-requisites? Or is this just taking each pane and modifying the page with some JS to hide/show each step? Sorry to be nitpicky, but this would be exceptionally handy, assuming the checkout process can be divided up.
