Are there plans to provide a D6 (Views2) version of this module?

No time, but feel free to provide one.
It might actually work with Views 6.x-3.x out of the box just by changing the "core" string in views_tooltip.info, but I haven't checked.

Nope, that did not work. A D6 version is definitely required.

Since I don't work on Drupal 6 anymore, having a D6 port will require someone to step up as co-maintainer.
Postponing the issue for now.
