Hi -- I am fairly new to Drupal. Does Flexinode 4.7 work with Drupal 5.0 which I have just installed? I put the flexinode folder into my module folder, but when I go to admin/modules, there is no choice to enable flexinode. Am I forgetting something, or does it just not work with Drupal 5.0? I have successfully installed/used other modules . . .

Also, the install file mentions a couple of files that are not in the download:
field_checkbox.inc
field_image.inc

Any help/guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It doesn't work. At the moment, the developer, Ber, is working on rewriting the module for 4.7, so the 5.0 version will still be a while before its released. In the meantime, if you are desperate to create a new node type, then you will have to look at CCK.

Thanks -- I also downloaded the HEAD version, but this does not seem to work correctly with drupal 5.0 -- is that correct?
Any idea on how long it will be until flexinode is ready for 5.0?
Many thanks.

I can't remember if the HEAD version is supposed to work in 5.0 or not, but my guess is it won't. I don't know how long it will take for the 5.0 version to come out, I'm afraid. It will still be several weeks I think, if not longer. It all depends on how much time the developer has to dedicate to this project.

Title: Installation on Drupal 5.0 » Flexinode for Drupal 5.0

Nor HEAD, nor 4.7 will work on drupal 5.

There are many request from people to get this on 5, but, I have pointed out that we first needed to weed out the 200+ bugs in the issue thread, then release that as a stabloe 4.7, then move on to 5.

I think the best read for you is http://webschuur.com/publications/blogs/2006-12-25-flexinode_update

Adn no, I cannot put any dates on this. Its my free /spare time that I use for flexinode. So sorry: can't promise anything.

That said, if you are really waiting for a 5.x release, you /can/ do a lot to speed it up. All you have to do, is install the latest 4.x flexinode on your site and play with it. Try to break it. And if you broke it, please send in reports. If you did not break it, please tell us/me so. If you post a small (20 lines) review on flexinode 4.7, containing what you did, and what works well, then we are able t push forward a LOT faster.

Its up to you to get a 5.x out fast!

Any chance we could see a stopgap 5.x release soon, Bèr? Or at least some unofficial patch only those of us who are more adventurous and and know what they're doing could use so as to not flood you with 5.x bugs?

Yeah, Drupal 5 has only been out for a month and half, I know that, but... some other module developers have already given up on 4.7 and are only maintaining their 5.x branches, so there's some pressure building up over us to update to 5.1. :)

Bèr Kessels’s picture

If you are really feeldin 'pressure' then feel free to create a first set of patches. I am willing to commit them to a 5.x branch, if people are dedicated to it :)

I, personally, have no need for 5.x code yet. I am all on 4.7, all the projects I work on are 4.6 or 4.7, so 5.x has no benefit (yet) for me.

Bèr, you're killing us buddy. Flexinode is such an important module. Can you forget about the fixes for the older Drupal releases and start working on Flexinode for Drupal 5.0. Please? I can support you by testing it ( Flexinode for 5.0).

You can show how much need you have by providing resources to create patches.

I have been waiting for Flexinode to upgrade to Drupal 5.0. Now it is almost time for release of Drupal 6.0 but still I can't upgrade to 5.1!

Steve, you could try this flexinode to CCK converter:

http://drupal.org/project/flexiconvert

It worked very well for me... but then, I only had two flexinode types and they were really simple, so your experience may vary.

I've started working on converting Flexinode to D5 for use with some of our projects which need to be upgraded. I'll post the effort in a new issue when an alfa version is available.

Status: Active » Closed (won't fix)

I've abandoned the effort for some time now and am opting for the Flexinode to CCK Converter module right now.

Bèr Kessels’s picture

I am talking to a client who wants such a convertor too, maybe we can join efforts?
