I am using Rules to execute certain actions when a node expires (node expire module). The actions include changing the title and populating a CCK field. This works well.

I don't want these nodes to disappear from my site but I don't want them to be indexed in Google anymore.

How could I use rules to add a no index tag to the node (or possibly to robots.txt) automatically? I looked for something like this but I'm guessing it can only be done through executing PHP?

Thanks for your help!

I'm interested by that too. My need is to change metatag according to a cck value, creating rule condition is easy but action is not available.

We juste have to create an action that gets access to nodewords metatag field and changes Index/follow to noindex/follow state.

I had a poor use of Rules until now, will have a look at documentation : http://drupal.org/node/298522

Drupal 6 is no longer supported. If this is still a problem in the current version of Rules please open a new issue.
