Hope this is not a dupe but upgrading to jQuery 1.1.1 in Drupal 5.1 produces the following effects.

collapse.js - can't collapse forms
textarea.js - resize handle click fault (hard to describe, but funny to see)

The jQuery library in core is not user-servicable. An upgrade to jQuery 1.1 will only happen in Drupal 6.0.
