Hi,

Google just announced that the translate API is being "deprecated", and will close entirely in December 2011.

Does this mean that this module will no longer work? Or is it possible to change it to use Google Translate Element?

Regards,

Luiz

Hi Luiz,

I believe that you are right and that the module will stop working.
The Google Translate API V2 is available as paid service only (http://code.google.com/intl/nl-NL/apis/language/translate/v2/pricing.html).

I've contacted the maintainer of the Translateth.is service and this is his response:

I'll be switching over to Microsoft Translator before the Google API deprecates. There's not as many languages, but any that don't exist in MS I will redirect the page to the URL to translate the given page on Google Translate. This way the page will still translate automatically, the only downside is that it will have the Google header on the page. An example: link

So it seems that the button will keep working but that it might have some impact on your design (the header) when a language is not available on Microsoft Translate.

@BarisW: Actually, for me it does not. Since yesterday (December 1st) it simply doesn't translate anything anymore (e.g. German to English, German to French, etc.).

Too bad, this was a nice feature :-(

Damn.. too bad! :( Then I've to abandon the project I'm afraid..

I don'T know Microsoft Translator... maybe it does only support translation from English?

Has anyone any experience of using the TranslateThis Button with a .EU or .FR domain. If so, did you have any issues such as invoking the the Google header on the page?

@mapleleaf: please open a new issue instead of changing the topic of an existing one.

For the others: it seems that the code is still working. I'm not using the button at the moment, but still other issues pop up giving me the idea that the code still works. Also, on the TranslateThis website, the translation still works too.

Therefor, I'm closing this issue. If you don't agree, please re-open.
