Whenever I try to preview/post the demo map configuration I get this popup error in IE:

error config load document: mapbuilder/config/add

The word NULL is also printed at the top of the page.

I have a feeling that it is because I can't change the input format in the Map Configuration node type. I set up the input type and can choose it when adding all other node types, but the whole input format selection section does not show up in either mapbuilder node types.

I didn't get any other errors as I was setting up the module. I installed the community mapbuilder code into mapbuilder/mapbuilder/ instead of mapbuilder/mapbuilder-src/ and changed the settings page accordingly. Any suggestions?

It's true that the preview doesn't work at this time, but the submit should. This issue can probably be changed into a bug report for the preview of map configs.
Problem is that during preview the config cannot be generated by drupal, at least not yet.

The input format is not the problem. No need to choose it.
It also doesn't matter how you name your mapbuilder folder as long as the settings are correct.
