While d7 port might me happening soon, can I suggest a name change?
Since "This module is not affiliated with Facebook in any way." Why name it facebook-style-statuses ?
I understand that 'facebook' might be what people are looking for when searching for such a module-set but it does not have to be in the name does it? I think it deserves it's own name. A-drupal-one.
Some suggestion: drups, member-stream, status-stream, drupstream, drupals,..

I figure the name was chosen to describe the function rather than show an affiliation.

The module itself creates a status display that is similar to the one Facebook has.

I suppose that's true and I understand, yet we don't call drupal a 'wordpress-like-cms' right?

The short answer is that the module will get renamed when the Micropublisher becomes part of the main package.
