When the visibility settings were still included, it was easy to change where CKEditor appeared. I would like it to appear on the account settings page so I could format emails etc... Is there any way I can add where CKEditor appears?

In this version of CKEditor module 7.x-1.x is not possible to include/exclude editor from fields, it would be possible asap in version 7.x-2.x. For now CKEditor only appear in fields with input format change support.

may be there are some alternative ways to do this? another module or custom (code) solution?

I tried an alternate way of doing it, but kept getting error messages. You can check it out here: http://drupal.org/node/1685034

It took me a week to figure it out if this is a bug of conflict or work as designed.
I can flexibly set it in Drupal 6 but no longer workable in Drupal 7. After reading this, I'm pretty sure that it's time to switch to other module editors. Tks
