The link to add new profile is showing up on the profile view page - which I don't want to have happen. It is also appearing on a page that requires the info for a hidden node reference that comes from the page they just came from. It doesn't work there because the node reference is required so I don't want it there either.

Is it possible to list the pages where I do want this feature? Is there currently a work-around or a patch for this functionality?

I agree - some content types do not need links and some do. Also a per-user-role might be nice. Some of my users get confused and some are looking for shortcuts. :)
