I have already installed drupal and the site has been running for the past 8 days. All of the sudden an hour ago the "Unable to connect to database server" popped up, and it is now stuck there. I would like to thank you for your attention to this topic, we have had over 10,000 views the last 8 days and It's just eating away at me right now knowing that people aren't getting to the site.

First off, I can only offer some anecdotal help here...if in fact it is a "spontaneous" failure without you doing any backend admin or ftp possible accidental overwrites etc, if you have not done so already, I would definitely contact your hosting service and make sure they are not experiencing failed or corrupted server or doing maintenance/repair etc. If a shared server, may be that others are off-line as well.

Can you log on to your Control Panel and see if the DB is there and available and check the connection string?
