I like the Idea of the shields and wished I could ad some shields of local significance. But It was impossible to change the properties of the folders the fields are lokated to insert some new shields I created:
"550 CHMOD 0777 vsite_design_default_shield: Operation not permitted
: /html/profil/sites/default/files/imagecache/0777 vsite_design_default_shield"
It is the same no matter what FTP-Client I use. Is there a way to change the properties and insert some new shields without a total new installation?

You probably need ssh access to change the permission of your files. Note that in the upcoming version of OS to be release in the next couple of days we have rewritten this part and every installation can have their own custom shields
