I am having issues with having google verify who I am using their sitemap. I have done both things they have told me, one is to put a meta tag and the other is to upload an html file. I am using 1and1, and as the days pass I am getting more and more frustrated with them. I put the meta tag in my index file, but apparently google can't see it. Then, I went to put the folder with the google name, like they say, and there is an internal server error. Does anyone know how how to fix this?
Thank you

Below is a module that is supposed to help with this problem. It is for 4.7, however.

Additionally, I would suggest placing the meta tag in the page.tpl.php file of your theme.

OK, I tried the module with no luck. Neither one of the options worked. It only puts part of the meta tag on the top of the page. Then, I tried what you told me, by editing the page.tpl.php file. I can go to my website and view the source and see the meta tag there, I just don't know why google says to me they are still seeing part of it.
Update: I justed figured out that I had to turn off the module in order for the google verification, based on the modifcation of the page.tpl.php file to work.
Thank you so much for helping me with this.
