Project seems to be a misnomer

The projet seems to be a misnomer to me since it has very little to do with controlling the group by clause and force you to aggregate.

Meaning : if you don't want to aggregate but just have better control on view groupby : you can't.

something like Views AggregateFunctions would be much better and maybe save people time or some bug request, like this one :)
