btopro commentedSee Roadmap -- http://groups.drupal.org/node/141864
Alpha 4 will have a variety of options for user import

btopro commentedFramework is there, find ELMS blog / screencasts for ways of getting users in. True user management and permission management will be adressed in ELMS Beta (January). The focus has been entirely on framework and best practices up to this point (at a code level). Now with those in place things like https://drupal.psu.edu/blog/235

btopro commentedthere is an example feature in Dev. Also ucreate maybe added to accomplish simple enrollment, better to use feeds from a file source then to enter manually

noogie293 commentedthanks for the reply... however, the video doesn't show how to enroll students to a particular course just to the site...

btopro commentedI think you're missing the distinction in the elms architecture. ELMS Parent is the Course landing / organizational page and ELMS Site is the structure / semester / version / offering in time of a course. The site is what you subscribe students to so that they have access to the content contained there.

noogie293 commentedI'm not sure I understand...I'm looking for a poor man's version of Blackboard to run our churches online courses and with much searching I came across ELMS. Would ElMS work for such a task? I've successfully installed and deployed a few sites using Drupal 7 so I thought ELMS would be easier to work with instead of trying to learn another app a new but I've been running into a lot of issues even trying to install ELMS, and once I did get it installed, there seems to be a lot of missing features...So I guess I'm still a little confused...any way to break it down even more for me please...Thanks much for your help

btopro commentedIf you want Blackboard you might be happier with Moodle. ELMS requires some assembly / configuration and makes more sense when integrated with larger networks of systems. ELMS is not a stand alone LMS by itself, it could just very easily become one. This also isn't Drupal 7, it's Drupal 6 with a lot of work to try and make it function more like 7 in many ways. The UX / UI is intentionally NOT drupal-like because I don't want to train instructional designers in Drupal, I want to train them in a way of a system working that can give a unique experience. This isn't as big a deal now that D7 is much more refined in UX then D6. Also using any distribution in drupal will require "learn another app" as ELMS installs over 120 modules during its setup and many other distributions have at least 80+ powering their default states.
"there seems to be a lot of missing features" -- This is open source, if you see something missing google it. If that doesn't yield anything viable then you'll have to code through it. I think your asking for Moodle and Drupal isn't there yet, though it will be in the coming years thanks to LTI and many many other universities "coming online" when it comes to using Drupal for LMS purposes.
