Hello.

I have no expiriance with drupal so far, i just heart that its one of the best cms around, so i checked a little themes avalible here and they aren't looking any good and professional at all.
Then i googled a bit and i found this site: http://www.drupalsites.net/ where i saw many awesome good looking websites, like:
http://thatotherpaper.com/
or
http://www.verticalresponse.com/

so my question is, how come those websites look so profesional, why arent there suche templates availble?
is it really possible to build suche websites with only drupal and how much knowladge is nessesery?

You can create anything you like with Drupal. Just make your own template. The sites you show here have probably made their own template. Therefore you need to know how to make a t emplate... Offcours, it is well documented in de handbooks.

When i make a new site in Drupal, i look for a t heme that almost fit my needs and i adjust the theme for me. That's not to difficult.

So basiclly i dont need any programing skills, html + css should be enaugh?
Probebly i dont have to rush into designing templates yet, so where do you sugest i start from?

Some themes are very well build and you could to a complete redesign without touching the PHP. Only change the CSS and html tags should do. Most of the php code in the template says what it does so you only need to copy/paste it, if you want to show it up on a different place.

it's not the good look you get from drupal but the good functions. any design is up to you. ;)

as you can see at your given urls much things are possible. you might take a look to www.mtv.co.uk too where drupal is used.

My personal belief is that any site you build should have it's own look. If you use a template it will look the same as a thousand other sites. And, I think that's where the drupal theming ninjas are for the most part. Each project they create a custom look.

Drupal makes it fairly easy to theme even if you don't know php. Check out http://drupal.org/phptemplate for an overview and all the tags that go in the theme pages.
