Is it thumbanail or thumbnail?

While I was debugging a View with some Video fields I noticed a variable in the View named 'thumbanail'. A search in the codebase shows at least 15 matches for this string (screenshot link below). I was wondering if this naming convention would confuse the Drupal theming layer (ie the theming layer is looking for the variable 'thumbnail' but it doesn't exist).
