I am having the same problem with users not showing in profile field public pages, although they are logging in.
This is with a fresh 5.1 install.

It is affecting other modules i have now disabled: avatar and usernode.

MySQL version 4.1.21-standard
PHP version 4.4.4
Apache version 1.3.37 (Unix)

We seem to have a problem with the profile.module not printing users on public profile pages

Note that while using usernode.module certain fields did not print on the usernode. My guess, it is related.
