Highly anticipated!

It's something Drupal desperately needs. You'd have to say the forum solutions for Wordpress and Joomla are considerably better at this stage, so ya looking forward to this one.

Advanced forum is a great improvement on the standard module, and you've done a wonderful job on it, don't get me wrong, particularly as a solo project, which it largely seems to have been, that's a huge undertaking. Still, looking forward to a more feature rich forum, and I think you've done the right thing striking out with this one. Wish i had some skills to help, because the scale of this module is really deserving of some more co-contributors, so I hope anyone that can help, will get on board. Looking forward to seeing it develop.

The main feature Advanced Forum lacks is decent moderation abilities. That's something that will be addressed by Artesian. There's a few other small things as well, but mostly this will have the same feature set as Advanced Forum. The point of this is to rebuild the foundation to improve performance and make some things like moderation easier. If more features get added, it will be in 2.x+ but, honestly, there's not that many more features needed. For end users, Advanced Forum already does most of what's expected other than a few minor missing things like the jump to last post.

Michelle, can you establish a roadmap so potential contributors may pitch in the development process?

I can try to help with simple logic implementation, if this is needed somehow.

I'm not to a point where I can delegate anything, yet. I'm beginning to regret starting a project for this... I wasn't actually planning on it but the subject came up on IRC and chx said I should go for it so I did. But I really was hoping to be able to work at my own pace with no pressure for a while so I can do this right rather than slapping something together quickly.

If people are eager to help Drupal's forums, Advanced Forum will be around for quite a while, yet, and I'm sure the folks that are caring for it now would love to have patches. :)

Just wondering where the name Artesian came from

I was looking for a water metaphor (common Drupal thing, in case you don't realize) and ran across "artesian well" which made me think of The Well which is a really old forum-like place. Plus there's the whole "wellspring of ideas" concept. So it just all fell into place. :) Now I just need to get the code doing the same...
