I installed the categories module on www.ctownrundown.com and it deleted the forum containers we had set up and basically every other form of content, the book content type we had to set up our directory and our podcasts and our event module, all had content deleted when this module was installed. Is there a way to get rid of this and get the content back?

It's very unlikely that your content has been deleted, it's probably just not displaying.
A few things to try:
* remove the categories files from your /modules folder
* view your database in phpmyadmin or similar and turn the module off (I think it's in the system table, then find "category")
You should back up your database and/or keep a record of any steps taken so you can retrace as well.

I had my forum "vanish" after installing the cat module taxonomy wrapper.
Uninstalled the wrapper, and back came the forum (albeit a tiny, test one).
(I've since unchecked cat module and its relatives.)
