The first one, while, interesting is not Drupal related really and I feel that anyone running their own server knows to make backups of what they need. The second comment is already in the main doc.

I will re-work a couple paragraphs in here so that it becomes more obvious to the reader that the /files/ directory should be backed up more regularly than the entire set of core files would be. I also +1 the removal of both of these comments, as they in no way pertain to the page's topic, which states, in full, "Backing up your DRUPAL site". Not your webserver.

Two things...

1) Nothing guarantees /files to be /files - if someone named it /other, then /other would be automatically created in that process, hence the doc should be more specific. Backup the files directory specified on the Site Configuration Page. Also, if someone else did your install and was sloppy enough to leave a /files directory at root but then created a /files directory below /sites -> thats a problem also.

2) I usually backup all my core and contrib files too. Its time & resource consuming, but do you know which version of all your contrib modules you are running; right now. I don't know, and certain things require certain upgrade paths - particularly pre 4.7.

As far as this go I wold just say to regularly back up "The entire drupal directory (make sure to get your files directory if it is above root), or save a .diff of a standard files backup, if your root is too large."

Tressler's comments have been incorporated into http://drupal.org/node/22281.

Forgive me, father, for I have sinned and not written in the node's changelog. I started by re-working some of the sentences on this page to try and incorporate Tressler's comments, and ended up pulling out a triage knife. I spent so long writing that I forgot to make comments. This was a pretty hefty change too. What should I do? Edit it again with changelog added?

no. when incorporating comments, just mention incorporated comments. The log is not meant to be a detailed explanation of everything you did, merely a note on why you were editing the page. We have the revisions to look at if we're curious.

dww is testing diff module on scratch.drupal.org and it looks pretty but he's on vacation and blue beach floats cause a minor issue with the layout.
