So, I'm having a similar issue to #1186842: The Varnish control terminal is not responding at 127.0.0.1 on port 6082, however I am running on completely different versions.
I was able to configure Varnish 3 and get it up and running on 8082 according to varnishstat -1:

fabsor commentedThis is probably related to #1179964: Support for Varnish 3.x as you probably already figured out =) However, I need as much data as possible to iron out all problems with running Varnish 3, so if you have time, it would be really helpful if you could have a look in your watchdog and search for varnish errors in there, and report some of them. That makes it easier for me while working on the Varnish 3 support for this module.

flatcircle commentedMaybe the wrong place to ask but since Varnish 3.0 has just officialy been released:
- Could you post your .vcl which you use with Drupal 7.2 and Varnish 3.0?
- In D6, you could choose the caching mode ('external' for Varnish), in D7 this option isn't available. Do I just have to enable caching in D7?
- Does Varnish work if I use 'compress cached pages' (gzip) in D7?
