I'm working on an entry form for a giveaway using the webform module (there are multiple giveaways every month)—it would be great to able to include a check box to opt-in for the group's newsletter. Is there a way to get webform and the mailchimp module to play together? If not, this would a terrific feature.

Are you guys helping with the Webform Mailchimp module http://drupal.org/project/webform_mailchimp (it is still in beta) or is there a way to roll the functionality into this module?

At this point, the feature set for the 6.x version of the MailChimp module is frozen. We are only providing maintenance releases for those branches.

We're not working on that contrib, but it looks really promising. Regardless of maintainership, it makes sense that this feature would remain in a separate contrib module - particularly for D7, where we are trying to break out MailChimp integration features into separate modules, such that mailchimp.module serves as an API.

Especially as this modules is looking for a new maintainer it would be awesome if it´s functionality could be integrated as "component" (sub-module" directly within the mailchimp module.

We're going to be ending support for the 7.x-3.x branch due to the upcoming deprecation of the v2.0 MailChimp API. If you're still interested in this feature, please feel free to reopen for the 7.x-4.x branch.
