Hi,
I've set up a site with Bryght.com's hosting service, and I'm pretty happy. However, their base set of modules (listed here http://support.bryght.com/supported-modules) includes no way to download/export my user data.
I have to be able to do this, to feed a third party service with my opt-ins for email newsletters, and to back up the info for safekeeping. Bryght says I have to jump from $20 to $50 (VPS) to get them to install a "download to CSV" module, but my new non-profit org can't take that expense right now.
Any ideas for solutions? I don't know PHP, and my service level doesn't allow me access to hack files or to add modules that aren't in the base set. Looks like I can create blocks, create pages, add snippets, etc.
Worst case scenario, I'd be fine with a hack that changes the default display of my users so that their email address is shown and opt-in status is shown -- then copy/paste and deal with it in Excel. (Neither are shown by default, I have to click each user to see these data.)
I'd love to find an easier-to-work-with-solution, though.
If I can't solve this problem, I may have to move hosts -- not a great option. Thanks in advance for any advice.

You need different hosting.
You need different hosting. Twenty dollars let alone fifty dollars for a HOSTED web solution is ridiculous. I use WHB (webhostingbuzz) and I get a very reliable 5gig, 1tb of transfer to use on WHATEVER I want, so I can setup drupal however I like it.
for three dollars a month.
Non-technical users
Actually, many people like the fact that we take care of upgrades, security patches, and continue to add features to the fully hosted option.
The $50US option is our low-end virtual private server option, where developers can do production Drupal hosting and have full command line access. Unfortunately, this "full access" solution isn't appropriate for people who are uncomfortable with the command line, and we can't (as I mentioned) offer every module under our fully hosted option.

The future is Bryght.
User exports
Yep, we don't have a module in our Bryght Basic install profile that does user exports. You're on our Drupal 5 Preview Release, which we're still tweaking features and included modules for. Unfortunately, we can't just support any module under the sun for 1000s of websites: we have to be very selective.
I've been thinking about a "download to CSV" function out of the Views module, but this still doesn't solve the problem for users, *yet*.
This might be something for the Advanced User module. I was originally thinking of User Import....but it imports CSV files, not exports them.
