Drupal Resource Hog!
I had my site (4.7+) hosted on site5 shared hosting some while back. They kept blocking my site saying I was using too many resources. Decided to move to MediaTemple Grid Server account a few months back. Same thing there, was getting charged over the monthly fee for using excessive amounts of resources. My site has about 50+ people (guest + members) on it any given time, recently it has hit 100, but for relatively short period of time.
The modules running on the site are not know to be resource hogs, fairly standard, partial list below:
forums, comments, views, gmap, flexinode, voting, events, nodereview, gsitemap ...
A normal community site. Any ways so I decided to bite the bullet and move the MediaTemple DV basic account and now I see that drupal is taking up much of the time 90% of the system resources consistently i.e. 256MB RAM is generally used to the max. Same things with the CPU.
I cannot figure out what is causing such high resource consumption. One thing which also stumps me is that the CRON is perpetually running, I have never seen it stop.
It would be great if people could share their drupal resource checking tips.
Thanks.

Thoughts
Forums are a bit on the heavy side. Flexinode does excessive joins and can use too much resources. Views, not sure, but depends on what you do with it. If you have too many blocks generated by views on every page, then it can be heavy. Gsitemap only comes into play when Google crawls your site. Not sure about nodereview or gmap, since I did not use them.
The fact that cron never stops is a problem, but can't say what it is for sure.
Try disabling all the modules that you can disable and see if things are better, then enable them one by one to see when the site slows down.

Module Load Times
Here is a minor tweak you can make to your Drupal 4.7 install that will tell you how long your modules are taking to load (individually and as a whole):

Thanks Mike. That was really
Thanks Mike. That was really useful. Flexinode seems to be quite a heavy duty module.

Devel module has a ton of options to to see page load times, sql queries run on each page etc. Also, make sure you are running cron per the last step of your install.txt as it clears out old log files and if not running can impact your sites performance.
