It would be grand if The user account options (disable pm, and email notify pm) could be moved into a field group category, by way of Configuration->People->Account Settings->Manage Fields.

I have no idea what I need to do for that to work or why it doesn't work out of the box. I suggest you ask in the field group issue queue with a link to this issue.

It shouldn't have anything to do with the field group module. It has to do more with being able to move the field around on the Account Settings->Manage Fields page.

I think that is the only thing holding it back from working perfectly.

The 7.x-2.x version will be managed by #1322342: Make the user field available for manage fields in profile.
